A newly launched labour & employment boutique firm is looking to partner with an experienced employment lawyer with the talent, skillset and drive to take over the management of the firm and its busy practice in the next 3-5 years.  You will be joining a firm started by a seasoned lawyer with over 30 years of experience under their belt and who was also a former leader of several Labour & Employment Practice Groups at some top-tier national firms. You will help support the firm’s diverse portfolio of clients ranging from large multinational companies to smaller local businesses. The firm intends to remain small and nimble but has ambitious plans to become one of the elite labour & employment boutiques in Vancouver.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced labour & employment lawyer to join an existing busy profitable practice at a firm in its early stages. You will have the chance to not only influence the culture of the firm but also advance to managing partnership within the next 3-5 years and eventually oversee both the management of the firm and its clientele.   

 

ABOUT THE POSITION

While there is an existing partial practice to step into, the successful candidate can also either bring a partial practice of their own (generating 50% of their own billings) or be able to gradually build up their own practice to that level. The practice will encompass all aspects of employer-side employment law such as advising employers on employment agreements, misconduct, reviewing policies, and making appearances at the Supreme Court of BC, Human Rights Tribunal, and the Employment Standards Branch.

THE REQUIREMENTS

  • Called to, or eligible to be called to the bar of British Columbia
  • 6+ years of Labour & Employment experience or related with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Partial/full book of business or ability to build a practice
  • Experience with attending court for trials, hearings, mediations, etc.
  • Excellent client service, business development, and writing skills
